Our Legacy - Creating a Space to Rejuvenate Wellness

Our legacy is not what we leave behind, it is about our purposeful behaviours we cultivate daily. - Dr Mark

The word "legacy" brings forth numerous definitions and examples in the world at large, currently more so in business than in healthcare. Concurrently, our founder Dr Mark has been in healthcare for over 42 years, understanding that there are multiple schools of thoughts (theories) in lifestyle medicine, wellness, psychology and neuroscience. This diversity we believe adds strength and greater perspective, not confusion, to how a person, a family, a community, and or an institution/business can create, build, sustain and grow their quality of life. As Thomas Aquinas (1225 - 1274) once said so eloquently (in Latin): "homineum unius libri timeo." In other words, "I fear the man of a single book." At the Centre for Stress Management our legacy in healthcare and wellness has many books of life we have drawn from to collaborate with our clients to grow the best version of their authentic self for all areas of life.

Hence, our legacy has come about by way of the "many books" (degrees, training, professional and personal development) we have read and continue to read, acknowledging and accepting our past, but maintaining a growth mindset of the journey in the now, and remaining resilient and optimistic for tomorrow. Our legacy is grounded in the journey of discovering who we are (our authentic self), what aspirations we seek (our values, skills, passions), what motivations and grit can we call up to enhance our growth (our willpower), and how can we socialize with the self and others for a sense of identity and belonging (our community). In short, we help each client develop their own purpose statement for life (what "to be") and supporting purposeful behaviors (how "to do") that is in alignment with the authentic self for optimal flourishing.

One "book" in particular that has been key in Dr Mark's legacy are the writings from UNESCO and MGIEP. UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP), have a shared vision of "building kinder brains" that resonates within our legacy value of wellness advocacy (see below). UNESCO and MGIEP thus focuses on education for peace and sustainable development to support their vision. This in turn has inspired our legacy building in counselling - coaching - training - consulting services around educating our clients on optimizing their mental and physical well-being through self-compassion (saying kind things about our self) and self-love (doing kind behaviors with our self). This in turn reduces our internal tension and stress to unleash more energy for transforming our life.

Our legacy also focuses on the researching, designing and delivering state-of-the-art healthcare. This journey includes Dr. Mark having experience in trauma, infectious diseases, healthcare management, business consulting, academic lecturers, professional and personal coaching, NGO - charity leadership, designing substance abuse rehab centres, anti-ageing research, and counselling for children, teens and adults. Dr. Mark also developed wellness programs for various types of organizations and schools, clinical supervision for students in counselling and psychology, public speaking on wellness, and providing pro bono services to various healthcare charities and NGO's.

Today Flourishing Asia - Centre for Stress Management is building upon our legacy by integrating lifestyle medicine, neuroscience, nutritional therapy, physical activity (more than just exercise), positive psychology, mood regulation (EQ) and healthy lifestyle macro and micro life skills. Embracing our value that healthcare is a fundamental human right, we have strived through our mission and vision to provide a most affordable, state-of-the-art wellness centre for our community in Hong Kong and Thailand to survive an thrive in their daily lives. We look forward to collaborating with each and every one of you on a journey of learning, growth for optimal wellness - a quality of life you can experience and be thankful for.

Live Curiously

Our legacy encourages us to embrace uncertainty where we collaborate others to reduce the fear of the unknown and instead lean into lifelong learning. Concurrently this aspect of Dr Mark's legacy is to constantly "ask better questions" around the what, the how and the why to spark deeper thinking and awake unknown insights.
